Mi24 Russian Attack Helicopter 'Click on the picture to watch film!'
|
Want something a little unusiual? A piece of our cold war history perhaps. Occassionally on my trips, I stumble across unusual machines. And they don't come more unusual than this. What you are looking at is a Mi24 Russian attack helicopter. These were widely used in the Afghanistan war in the eighties and I suppose compare to the US Appache machine you see today. Now before you think, wow... idea to fly around and impress the neighbours. Although its complete less a couple of gauges, and would start up. The machine has no air worthness certification and would cost a 'bob or two' to put back in the air. And besides being a sandwich short of a picnic if you did. You would be in big trouble if you did. What a truck, these are fantastic fun to drive, I drove one back a few weeks ago from Eastern Europe, and enjoyed that V8 bark so much going through the Dartford tunnel, I went through again recording it. Urals are very dominating on the road, with that spilt screen they are handsome bruts. Whats unusual is the power winch, direct driven from the gearbox you can literally pull a house down. They make fantastic campers also, I've sold a few of these now for the extreme expedition. Unfortunately these days rightly or wrongly due to west kicking a few doors down in the middle east. Traveling around in a western truck can be a bit tricky, with Urals they are known world wide and don't attract the wrong attention. Don't forget the Ural Motto 'No Roads, no problems'

ZIL131 'Click on first picture to view film'
|
Over one million Zil131's were built, being the main work horse of the Russian military. Comparable to our Bedfords (but without the leaks). They make ideal expedition vehicles for those wanting to go to the most remote parts of the world. From Outer Mongolia to Seria. Also, they have a multi-tude of uses, and you're find they are the most mechanic friendly vehicle. Unlike any other vehicle these were designed to be easily repairable. Making an ideal expedition vehicle. I have sold a few of these now to adventurers wanting to escape the everyday life. To date Iran, India, Western Africa and Guyana are just a few countries these have gone on expedition. But bewarned especially in the spring these are short supply, so order early to avoid being disappointed. This one painted yellow has only 900 recorded kilometres, this is about 500 miles!!! Is due to be transported here around 6th Nov 2006, the box is idea for conversion.

Gaz66 Radio box 'click on first picture to view film'
Ever tried starting you forward control V8 when warm, yes they are a pain, I nearly did a basil faulty on one I had a few years ago, well with Gaz66 thankfully they do start, and on the button. These are slightly bigger than forward control but brutally good looking, along with that V8 bark. With the Gaz you can't help but rattle a few sash windows. Anyway, these were the assult vehicles, and are often used by the Russian special forces, where agility and speed are required, these are also multi-fuel, and so can cost literally nothing to run, and MOT exempt, these can probably the cheapest vehicles to run.Click on first picture to watch film of actual Gaz available.

ZIL FROG 7 LAUNCHER
What a monster! What you are looking at is not for the weak. These monsters wouldn't be out of place in a Thunderbirds film. This was Russia's first vehicle designed purely for launching FROG 7 (Free Range Over Ground) Intercontinental Missile. Powered by 2 mighty 7ltr V8 Ural Petrols, she also has an uncomfortable fetish for Petrol stations. All the fun of a tank but without the hassale.

The 'Monster' MAZ537 Tank Heavy Transporter
The rarest of them all, is now available. The Maz was the answer to all Russian heavy lift problems. Everything about this truck speaks for its self. The engine is absolutely huge, 38,000cc!!! When she fires up your rib cage will start doing the JohnTravolta hussle. Anyway, if you like Im big it stops here, not much else will beat it. How often do you need a pre-primer to lift the crank before starting. Dimensions are staggering but she is surprisingly simple to drive.

Czech BVP 1 or BMP1
Very rare and unique BVP1, also known as BMP1 (Russian version). Although they are exactly the same. But the slightly better put together. I often see tanks available like this, but never UNUSED or NEW RESERVE. Whilst the picture shows many, don't be fooled. African governments are swarming like bees around honey pot at these. And they are likely to buy everyone. Reserve unused BMP's I think are one of the most practical tracked versions you can drive or possible to commute in, or to do the daily school run! (its been done).

Mig21 Jet engine with afterburner
The caught my attention, as far as I'm concerned it's a piece of art, but what art.... Never mind your un made bed. This will impress, although its complete and I have been told will run. You would need nerves of steel to fire her up. Especially, if you do it in your semi. This would cause your neighbours to bang on the wall. I just find myself staring at all the controls thinking this is capable of achieving over Mack2, that's as fast as Concorde.

Mi2 Russian Helicopter
|
Yes another unusual craft, this one is complete and was demonstrated for me. Its been flown only up to a few weeks ago. And now is retired, although running fine. Everthing is there and complete and ready to use, the only minor problem is there is no air worthiness certification, so you are not allowed to fly her, that's unless you are a sandwich short of a picnic.
