OT-65 FUG Amphibious
Very rare DIESEL
P.O.A.
Very impressive
everyday useable armoured scout vehicle, that swims
as well! These now tend to be used by special security
forces or riot control. I saw one parked outside Prague
international airport during the summer when security
level was very high. I did try to film, but they were
not impressed, instead they threatened me with a free
ride to their security office.
Principally
they are very similar to the BRDM-1's, but instead of
the six cylinder engine, a super reliable Hungarian
Csepel diesel engine was fitted.
Whats more
intriguing about these 'FUG's, oh yes FUG stands for
'Felderito Oszo Gepkocsi'. Quite sure why FUG is spelt
with a U and not a O, I'm not sure. Anyway, they have a lower under carriage, this was a bit of a whacky way of improving
mobility across country. There are arguments as to whether
it helps a great deal. But its impressive.
Now in case you are thinking
that looks nice and its tempting being a diesel. But
I not ready yet. Think again, there were only 51 of
this type made. So the chance of finding another is
remote!
What makes this unit particularly
rare is, it still has the extremely powerful infra red
search lights. And as most Cam-corders these days are
infra red as well. Just think what fun you can have.
The armoured
unit is about as idea as they come, idea for crossing
the Thames when the traffic gets to heavy.
