OT-810, SdKfz 251

Something rather rare, possibly the only one in world, totally original with just 50 recorded miles, and one of the earliest!!!

Something for the WW2 enthusiasts, occasionally during my travels I stumble across something amazing. The Wehrmacht built the SdKfz 250 in Czech, these versions were originally only rated to carry 1 tonne, but was later uprated to the famous SdKfz 251. Seen world wide during the war there were fairly common. Basically it was time to worry when you saw these as they were often used by the reconnaissance. Or as they called them the 'Leichter Schutzenpanzerwagen'.

The 250 series first came rolling off the production line in late 1939 shortly afterwards with the 3 tonne 251, and first saw action when the Nazi tour visited France in May 1940. To start with these were produce by the Hanomag concern in Hanover. In the later part of the war Skoda started building them in Czech under forced labour for the Wehrmacht. Around 14,500 units were made until production stopped suddenly in 1945.

However, they proved very successful also with urban warfare. And so Stalin saw these ideal for Armoured Personnel Carrier. We take these APC's for granted now with the Warrior and 432 etc, but then it was quite rare to want to protect your soldier. And so production started with the re-badged OT-810.

Whats the difference? Virtually nothing besides a roof added and that famous V8 Tatra diesel engine. The early examples even used the German gearbox and suspension. Later, small modifications were made, better armour etc. But principally they are the same

Strange as it might seem they continued production up to 1970. Yes, amazing.

The one offered for sale is the early version, with many original German components making it very sort after by collectors. Its very originally in every detail, and is about as clean as you are going to get. Its also not been restored or hacked around for film use.

Convert to rubber tracks and drive around London, and you will bring the traffic to a stand still. Also, ideal for Tesco's or Walmart.
